Dedset has been a part of the local music scene in Atlanta since 2005. They recently released their first album which is loaded with tracks reflecting the popular southern rock sound with metal and alternative influences. The self titled album was produced by Bruce Bennett who has worked with familiar names such as Edwin McCain and Sugarland. The band’s official CD release party will be on July 17th at The Scene with fellow locals Under Black Horizons and Rusted Soul.
Tracks vary on their level of heavy delivery. “Choke” has an old school Metallica opening and a more metal feel in comparison to the rest of the album. The drums are intense and the guitar solo at the end of the song really shreds. “Break You” has a distinctive bass line and its guitar really helps make this track come together. While Fowler’s vocals work in screamo mode, they are best reflected in songs that are slightly softer. Such as opening track, “Senses” which is one of the best off the album and has radio airplay written all over it. The strong drums and catchy chorus really compliment the vocals. The guitar remains heavy, but matched with the softer vocals will appeal to an array of fans. “Contingency Plan” is much slower and sweeter than most of the album’s tracks and the delicate guitar riffs seem to coincide with the lyrics harmonically. “Away” has a more ambient guitar with felicitating bass and drums. Vocally speaking, this is one of their best tracks. Other songs worth mentioning are “22” and “Bitter”.

Dedset seems to be dead set on building a fan base within the Atlanta area, at least for now. Their next show is the CD Release on the 17th, but they will also be performing on August 14th at The Scene and again September 5th at The Local. If you can’t get enough of southern rock with an edge, this album is definitely up your alley.
