Copper’s familiar southern rock sound, catchy choruses, and bold lead guitar make first time listeners instant fans. With lyrics spoken from the soul and unabashedly, songs are relatable and addictive. The album is loaded with songs that sound radio worthy for today’s playlist. Concert-goers that attended shows with Shinedown, Seether, Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, or 30 Seconds to Mars may have already heard this Knoxville quartet. Fans of these bands and Trapt will enjoy Copper’s “Take My Chances”. The first song “Call To Action” was a great choice to open the album and gives you a taste of Mike Barnes’ skills on guitar. His talent is reflected in every song without being dominating or showy. Every song that follows seems better than its predecessor. Finding a favorite off the album is extremely difficult. Songs of lost love like “Broken Sky”, “Heartbreak Lullaby”, “Falling Apart”, “Change Your Mind”, and “Gravity” are both beautiful and strong. “Make You Mine” starts with a pop/ dance vibe reminiscent of The Killers. In “Overrated” the band rocks out and gives off a fun high. “Shadow of a Doubt” has a heavier sound with a taunting guitar finale. The secret track has a slightly different sound from the rest of the album, adding in additional elements with a repetitive backbone and a catchy pop/rock chorus where Keith Wallen sings “how many heartbreaks” wooing the listener. While Copper is not on the breaking edge of finding the next new sound in music today, they have a knack for writing songs on matters of the heart and appealing to an array of fans. Copper has a recipe they stick to and it works for them. With an album so jammed packed with potential hits, this CD is sure to stay on your personal regular rotation.
